7 Free Useful Time-Saving Tools For Video Editors In 2021

Updated on October 12, 2021

As technology continues to evolve, so does the video editing process. Whether they’re new innovations or old stand-bys we just never knew about, these 7 useful time-saving tools for video editors will help your workflow and deliver more creative, polished videos faster than ever before!

This list is by no means extensive, and I am constantly looking for new tools to make my job easier. I will be updating the list. If you have any of your own to add, feel free to write them in the comments below! And you can also save this post in a bookmark list.

1.) Color Schemes Generators

For those without the time to create their own color schemes, color scheme generators can help make life a lot easier. With so many generators out there it can be hard to choose, but my personal favorite tool for that is coolors.co. This tool allows you to choose from a palette of colors or input your own, take a sample image or upload one, and then download the scheme for use in your editing software. It only takes seconds to create a scheme that looks great!

2.) Youtube Downloaders

As I’m sure we all know by now, during the video editing process sometimes we need additional footage for our videos and finding that footage can take a lot of time. But if you find the clip you want on youtube, you can download it really fast with a youtube downloader! My favorite free tool is Youtube 4K Downloader. It is not an online tool. It is a program that you need to download in order to be able to use it, but it is probably the best I've tried. It allows you to choose the quality up to 4K and the format you would like. It also allows you to download the sound only, so, for example, you can download the background music of a video for your own needs.

3.) Font Finders

Sometimes we have an example of a font that we really like for our project, but finding the font can be almost impossible. Font finders are a great tool when it comes to finding exactly what you're looking for. My favorite tool is called WhatTheFont. It uses an algorithm to pick out the fonts that are most similar to the one you have in your picture example. This tool is also helpful if you have a logo or piece of text that you would like to transform into a font.

4.) Reverse Picture Finders

Sometimes we have an image that we would like to use, but we want the higher resolution file, or we don't know about its copyright status - it may even be a screenshot from a video. And when we want to find the original picture source, it can take a long time. But if you have an image with some text on it, you can use a reverse picture finder to find the original picture in just seconds!

This tool is super easy to use; take your image, upload it into reverse picture finder, and then you can find the original image. This method also works if you would like to know about the copyright status of an image because usually, people mention somewhere in the description what other users are allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do. For this purpose, I mostly use a google image finder.

5.) Exact Audio Finders

If you want the name of a soundtrack that you like for your video, but you can't remember the name of it or where to find it on youtube, an exact audio finder is a great tool that will help you a lot. You can upload a track or part of it into the audio finder tool and then you will get all the information about the song including its title and artist! Sometimes it can be tricky if the quality of the track is low or there are some background noises, but usually, it is very helpful. For this purpose I personally use audiotag.info. The website design looks old, but this tool is very helpful, and I never had any problems with this site.

6.) Video Transcoding Tools

Video transcoding tools are a great way to save time and space. If you have a video that has good quality, but you would like to make its size smaller for faster upload and sharing, there is no need to re-render the whole piece in your video editing program. Sometimes it can be quicker to use a transcoding tool for this purpose. My favorite video transcoding tool is Handbrake. It is free, open-source, and powerful enough to output 4k videos. It also has the built-in Youtube/Vimeo presets that are great for uploading your finished work directly to Youtube.

7.) Text Paraphrase Tools

There are many reasons why you may need to paraphrase certain texts. Sometimes because you want to make it shorter or longer and sometimes because you want to make it easier to understand. But paraphrasing isn't always easy, especially if English is not your first language. So it is great that there are text paraphrase tools that can do this job for you. The best tool I know of is an online tool that you can find here: www.paraphrase-online.com. It is free and very easy to use. Of course, the interface doesn't look the best, but come on, who cares about that if it can make your writing better!

In conclusion, these are some great tools that don't cost money and can save you a lot of time. I hope you will find them useful! If you use some other time-saving tools, that I didn't mention in the list, feel free to mention them in the comments! Thanks for reading!
